Rec Center in St Mary's County Maryland

In St. Mary's County we have very little year-round, late night, early morning recreation programs. Most of our residents drive upwards of 45 minutes to go to the Capital Club House for ice skating, rollerblading, etc. We have great mills pool, a bowling alley that is run down and over priced and nothing much after that. If the County Commissioners would please look into getting a YMCA or franchising a recreation center similar to the Clubhouse in Waldorf there would be citizens of this community who would be ecstatic. We dont have an arcade, ice skating, roller skating, indoor basketball court, etc. There is a major deficit when providing programs and activities after school for kids from pre-k to 12th grade. We have military families moving to the area who have to search out other families/ mothers for play dates but nothing much to do after that. If we had a Rec Facility in the area the mom groups, dad groups, kids of all ages would have a great place in the community to meet up. I see kids out in freezing cold weather playing basketball on run down courts because this is one of the very few places they can go to stay out of trouble! Please bring these programs to St. Mary's, more specifically the Lexington Park area. I see kids going into walmart late at night during the summer because they have nothing else.

***Dance academy, gymnastics, boy scout meetings, soccer, etc. They're spread out across the entire county leaving parents to drive more than enjoy their kids sports, having a rec center would make it easier on the parents having an all-inclusive rec center in one space so the parents aren't driving until 10pm and keeping kids up late.

***Most YMCA franchises have a free or reduced price membership which would also benefit many of the families in the area also.
