Kate White started this petition to St. Martin Parish school Board and

Keeping Catahoula elementary school K through eighth grade open is vital to the community of Catahoula. This school is a small neighborhood school that services children from preschool to eighth grade. It’s one of the best rated schools in our parish. A small school allows for smaller classrooms for those who need it. The school is being closed because there were not enough African-Americans in the school system. Two of the board members on Saint Martin Parish board have confirmed that this is why the school is being forced closed due to the race ratio of its parishioners. This is not right this is discrimination against those that do attend the school. This is your school should remain open for its neighborhood because it provides plays a vital role in its culture and heritage. Catahoula elementary school does not discriminate against students in fact we welcome to anyone and everyone that wanted to be there learning was fun and the classrooms were always sweet and nice Miss Tiffany, the principal, an African-American woman, was amazing at helping parents navigate the school system and finding out how to help their children. She was an advocate for everyone to learn in and have fun while learning.

Federal judge Elizabeth foot has declared that this school should be closed due to race but unification was successful and each parent to put their kid in the school must provide three pieces of documents for example a mortgage statement or letter from a Landlord, two utility bills and other personal documents to prove that we actually lived in the district.

this gave the school access to private information that could’ve been stolen by anyone but we can fly to keep our little school open. In 2015 we were forced to lose grades six through eighth grade due to the same decades old case that was saying the school is racist. But they began making us prove where we lived that’s it should have solve the problem showing that each person lives with inside the districts current boundaries.

This petition to keep the school open and return its grades K through eight that were forced to close. This alleviates the overcrowded, understaffed, overworked,  messy, & disorganized St. Martinville ELC. As much as I would love to say that the schools are currently forcing us to attend is a Prospering  to school it’s not. Last time I saw it’s raining it was a D minus so they’re taking a B rated school and closing at forcing everyone into a D - rated school. A school that is already struggling to keep the grades up and to educate everyone equally.
