The public library system serves a vital need in communities, not only increasing literacy, especially in lower socioeconomic areas, but also access to materials, resources, and opportunities for learning that might not be available otherwise.

It should be a public service to the community! You should not stop kids or adults from reading. Why take away the privilege of learning more through reading? Why take away the privilege of book away from the less fortunate! It’s ridiculous that this is even a problem. It should not even be a question!

I grew up making weekly trips to the Julington Creek Branch Library. I used the internet to complete school projects, put in volunteer hours as an Interact member, and went on fantastic adventures to distant times and far flung places through the pages of the books I checked out each week. Books help expand our intellectual and emotional horizons, and everyone, rich or poor, should have easy access to them and information services more generally. Saint Johns County and the state of Florida need to provide more and better support for our libraries, not commercialize them by farming their administration out to the cheapest private bidder available.

Privatizing a PUBLIC library is a horrible idea.

Privatization is not in the public's best interest.
