Noah Valentin started this petition to St. John's University

During Spring Break 2020, COVID-19 spread to NYC and grew exponentially in case numbers. In keeping with the best interest of their students, multiple universities closed preemptively in order to combat the possible spread. Despite a clear precedence for such actions to be taken, St. John’s University decided against following suit. This lack of action resulted in possible exposure to COVID-19 and also the displacement of hundreds of dormitory students. Once again, SJU did not have the best interests of its student body at mind. Students who recently returned from break must now find a way to return home without adequate, timely notice. Furthermore, students will be moved to online courses, which have never been previously tested. This is not what we pay tuition for. We pay tuition for peace of mind and the assumption that our money will be placed with our best interest at heart, yet once again SJU has proven otherwise. Throughout all of this, President Gempesaw has been quiet, only issuing statements through email. As students we deserve more. We should be apologized to publicly by President Gempesaw for the mismanagement of this situation. Truthfully, we deserved better.
