VOICES MUST BE HEARD started this petition to St.Andrews School

It's been a long time since we arrived and attended classes like the good old days; we miss them a lot, but COVID cases are increasing day by day, hitting 63,000+ active patients per day in India has put us all in a dilemma. This school's like a second home for us; we wouldn't search foul ways not to attend the college.

The second wave has begun, and you all know about it; trust us, we're more eager to come to college than you want us to, but it's all about the risk we will face in the future. When the classes were online, why be so adamant about having the exams in a room? With Covid-19 making a comeback, it isn't safe anymore for anyone to conduct exams in offline mode. Mumbai, Pune, Nasik are seeing the student protests, and the only reason is on March 26th (i.e., 3 Days Back) saw a massive spike in cases of Covid- 19 patients (36,902), which were the highest in the number of the current year and surpassing the peak period of 2020(September). The recent update has shown a massive spike in cases with a record breaking number of 1,03,558.

When there were 100-200 cases, the institute was shut down, prioritizing health than education. But as we all are aware that we've hit the second wave, the institute plans to conduct offline exams. A year ago, we realized that Covid is not a joke and can seriously cause a lot of harm to our health. Going to classes and gathering in crowded spots was not safe. Prioritizing our health, courses have been shifted to online mode though we weren't ready for that. Both the teachers and students are unaware of the right tools required to teach and learn at the beginning, yet we gave online education a chance as in the upcoming future, online education will be the only medium of learning.

Making things entirely online was a good decision that included some practical problems as well, like, given the time, not every teacher would be able to solve our doubts. Still, the central fact is when one complete semester can be held online, then why forcing us to come to the institute to give our sem-end exams whereas our entire classes, including module test exams, were being held online.

Last year, Global Teachers Prize winner Ranjit Disale sir also stated that students are scared of offline exams after one whole year of online teaching. If we can modify our teaching method, why can't we modify our evaluation process similar to our previous semester?

We all know about the ongoing scenario, and we can't just accept the decision to come to the institute and write our exams in a room where we've to wear our masks for almost 3 hours
