On the evening of the 7th December 2017, Nicholas Scarrow and Alistair Ward were ejected from the St Aidan's Christmas Formal for 'violation of the high table'. They were removed from the formal as a result of Mr Scarrow rapidly consuming a half-bottle of Kopparberg.

Mr Scarrow was handed the bottle by Mr Ward as part of a 'cute' college marriage proposal. Mr Scarrow was told to stop in the midst of the beverage-consumption and did do so at first request. Mr Scarrow was then ejected, as was Mr Ward, for having consumed such a beverage at an 'unacceptably fast pace', and as punishment have been banned from the bar for a week.

St Aidan's is renown for its more 'relaxed' attitude with regard to formals. Due to the harsh and unjust nature of such punishment, the students of St Aidan's stand with Mr Scarrow and Mr Ward in appealing this decision. To paraphrase Voltaire, "I hate what you drink but will defend to the death your right to drink it".
