Distance learning has changed many of our lives in extreme ways. Students are the most impacted during these troubling times and need to be assisted in the right ways. Ever since the start of school, teachers have hit the ground running and have placed an immense amount of homework, test, and information on saints. SSSAS students have been asked to perform to the best of their abilities while doing the absolute most. Wednesdays have been very helpful for students who are struggling to get a full night's rest, catch up in classes, or even debrief from our emotions that distance learning has impacted. More likely than not, you will find that some students don't even have time to eat lunch or even get the 15 min break in between classes for "debrief". Wednesdays have become useful for independent workday/advisory. Most students rely upon Wednesdays to literally catch up on life and the everyday things that we miss doing during the school week. SSSAS is a diverse community full of student-athletes that need to perform well in sports with most sports taking up a significant time block within the day. Most students don't start homework until much later in the evening and then are expected to do so much work surrounding school. Distance learning has now made it even tougher on students because we are now expected to learn units on our own and tackle homework at the same time. The workload on students has significantly increased this school year and multiple students have reported having mental breakdowns due to the stress that teachers have now placed upon students. It is unfair and not right that we are expected to do so much work and learn so much material on our own. We strongly urge the SSSAS administration to keep Wednesdays as independent workday/advisory. Wednesdays would truly be beneficial for the success of the saint students. We would like to hold a forum to discuss the topic further to come to a common ground.
