Sri. V.Venkateswaralu, IAS, District Collector, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Telangana.

Sir,

Under your able leadership, the state of Telangana is progressing ahead in all fronts and we are extremely glad for the steps your government is taking in this regard. One of the noteworthy programs which were initiated by your government includes, Mission Kakatiya, a prestigious program to revive lakes in Telangana.

Amongst the several lakes identified, the colonies near the Mukkidi Cheruvu, (popularly called as Ramakrishna Puram by locals) area are privileged to have the lake identified for renovation. However, agonizingly, the work which was started three summers back has created extreme hardships for numerous households in this area. In spite of timely intervention and full support by local corporator, MLA, and MP, the project is still not in a position to be ready before the coming monsoon. Even after the completion of three summers, as mentioned above, the pace of activity currently in place is a major concern for all the colonies surrounding this lake. This lake has been a major source of water for the colonies for decades together and in the absence of which have resulted in extreme issues for the colonies surrounding it.

The groundwater levels have reached a historical low causing a lot of wells to dry up. Several borewells which were dug in the past 6 months are also not able to keep up the requirement of the households. On top of this, the supply of Hyderabad Metro Water Board supplied drinking water in this area has been extremely irregular and the families have to look for alternatives. Colonies are only provided Hyderabad Metro Water Board supplied drinking water (which happens to be a basic right) once in only 5 days. This is after successfully completion of “Comprehensive Drinking Water Project” in Malkajgiri, a project which was supposed to address the concerns of residents of Malkajgiri area. Further requests to Hyderabad Metro Water Board have not resulted in fruition. Also, considering the effects of Corona Pandemic and essential ways to keep the virus at bay, the availability of water becomes an essential commodity.

Hence, in this regard, we, the residents of colonies surrounding Ramakrishna Puram Lake, i.e,Devi Nagar, Sainik Nagar, Seetaram Nagar, West Krishna Nagar, Balaram Nagar, Old Neredmet, New Vidya Nagar, Ramakrishna Puram Basti, Vivekananda Puram, Raghavendra Nagar, Matrupuri, Raghavendra Heights and Shakti Nagar etc., request your kind office to solve this perennial problem and address the following issues at your immediate convenience. This may be accorded highest priority.

1.     Completion of pending drainage diversion pipeline work beside the lake so as to allow rainwater in the lake from catchment. In spite of your good offices being extremely busy, we request you to take this priority so as to make use of the coming rainy season. In the absence of which, the said colonies would have to go through much more hassles in the next summer.

2.     To supply water by Hyderabad Metro Water Board every alternate day for the coming month to address the grave situation which the colonies are currently in.

Thanking You Sir,

Residents of Devi Nagar, Sainik Nagar, Seetaram Nagar, West Krishna Nagar, Balaram Nagar, Old Neredmet, New Vidya Nagar, Ramakrishna Puram Basti, Vivekananda Puram, Raghavendra Nagar, Matrupuri, Raghavendra Heights and Shakti Nagar
