Springs Parents for Choice
Springs Parents for Choice
We are signing to advocate for parental choice and request action to implement policies that reflect parental choice.
Parents, doctors, and Government officials all over New York, the country, and the world are starting to stand up and be heard with their desire to unmask our children (and teachers who wish to be). New York school districts were given a get out of jail free card when NYS Supreme Court Justice Thomas Rademaker ruled that masking our children is against the law and that it can no longer be mandated in schools across the State. Despite this fact, Springs School was among the seemingly few that WANT to continue to force mask mandates on our children.
We have all been receiving canned responses from our superintendent after requests for information as to why the law was being broken by Springs School and they were not complying with the mask mandate being overturned. The NYSED does not have authority over the Supreme Court, therefore mask mandates were illegal in schools. Our superintendent and the SED is claiming that when the mandate was overturned there was an automatic stay, this is incorrect and did not apply until days later when (unelected) Governor Hochul's request for a stay was granted. You would think the people in charge of our children's happiness and safety would have jumped on the opportunity to let our kids breathe freely, if only for a day.
Aside from the legalities of this situation, we, as parents, are sick of watching our children have a sub-par school experience. They are not given adequate "mask breaks" during the day, they are snapped at when they lower their mask for a fresh breath after strenuous activities in gym class, they are constantly told it is too cold to go outside for fresh air, and are coming home at the end of 8 hour days with saliva soaked masks because of the lack of breaks that were promised.
It has been proven by countless scientists, doctors, and universities that masks just don't do the job that we had all hoped they would do, so what is the point? WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines, recommend against masking children ages 5 and younger, because this age group is at low risk of illness and because masks are not in the overall best interests of the child. Ages 6-11 are also not recommended because of the impact of wearing a mask on learning and psychological development. Our kids don't get to see their teachers give them a reassuring smile when they are having a bad day or smile at their friends as they pass in the hall when they are being quiet. Smiling and laughter is a universal language that our kids just aren't learning anymore.
...WHO also strongly discourages masking during physical activities for all ages, yet our kids are overheating and hyperventilating during gym and recess every day.
For two years now, our children have been caught in the middle of an unscientific, political stranglehold with all parental and human rights having been removed from the equation.
We are not trying to outlaw masks here, we are simply in favor of making it a choice AND having much more parental involvement in decisions that affect our kids. The masks are simply the catalyst. No one wants to be told how to parent or raise their children, but that is exactly what is being done.
We respect every parents right to choose what feels right for their family, and we expect the same in return. The rest of the world is waking up and taking a stand for basic human rights, LET'S TAKE OUR POWER BACK AND BE ON EACH OTHERS SIDE, because even if you are in favor of mask mandates, you might not like the next one forced upon you and your family.
