Imagine you are a student and it is recess time. You are bored, and cold and have nothing to do. Then you remember that your school has some adorable goats. You decide to pet them. You are happy.

Many schools are working just fine without goats. But for most schools that have goats loooove them! One of the teachers that helped take care of the goats said that the goats provided a learning experience for all grade levels. One more says that any animal (but also goats) can provide a broad range of character and academic lessons. Some of my ideas are that we could do a science unit on how cheese is made. We could do some hands-on stuff, like making goat cheese. Goats could also be used as therapy animals, and we could host some goat yoga, to get some extra money. There would also be free lawn mowing services. Well, they wouldn’t be free exactly, but once we got them, it would be free, and in fact, feed them so we would have to spend less money on food. We could use the feces to make fertilizer, Then we could sell the fertilizer! 

We can use craigslist to get a goat for only $100. I would happily make a lemonade stand to get some money, and I’m sure some of my friends would also do that. The schools also have lots of money to spend, and I could help start an after-school club to take care of them.  We can get goats, but we don’t have them. We already have chickens, so why can’t we have goats? 

What you can do to help is donate some money, or volunteer to transport the goats, and take care of them. Even if you don't go to spring harbor middle school, you could try to get your school some goats.
