Far too long the problem of streaming services massively underpaying their artists has gone unaddressed. If you're an artist yourself, or if you're active in the music scene, you'll likely have seen charts depicting just how little artists are being payed per stream for example, in Soundcharts.com's article. The figures from this article suggest that Spotify, currently the most popular streaming service in world, pays its artist a weighted average of $0.00318 per stream. It takes over 100,000 streams of a song for an artist to make one hour's worth on minimum wage.

Personally, I think that this blatant exploitation of musicians should be illegal. Something needs to change, and I believe that it is the duty of Spotify's CEO Daniel Ek, as the owner of the world's most popular streaming platform, to lead the way in this movement.

I believe that if Daniel Ek begins to pay a fair wage to those artists who rely on his platform to share their hard work with their fans and followers, then other companies, other streaming platforms just might be compelled to do the same.

Sign this petition to let Daniel Ek know that we think he needs to start paying those who use his streaming platform more.
