Have you been looking forward to your Spotify Wrapped all year, only to discover that the white noise you listen to to sleep or study has robbed you of what would have otherwise been a stellar Instagram story post? Or that the one Phoebe Bridgers song you had on repeat for just those two days now means that your favorite genre is femcel? Or maybe the fact that you use Soulja Boy’s entrancing discography to lull yourself to sleep is now being used to define you?

Here at Praxis Legal, we understand your pain and suffering (uwu). We ourselves have been victim to not being able to acquire social capital the fated first of December because of the flawed way Spotify cultivates its Wrapped report and misappropriates our musical superiority. We hope Spotify knows that when they reduce us to just data and bytes, they take away what would have otherwise been a gratifying chance to articulate ourselves through music. That’s why we’re petitioning as part of a broader legal case and class action lawsuit to have Spotify include a “don’t count towards my Wrapped” button while listening, so you can listen to whatever you want without having to disrupt the carefully constructed imaginary identity you’ve built for yourself at the end of every year.
