Alparslan is a 6 month old baby with type 1 SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) who lives in Turkey. There are four main types of SMA: 1, 2, 3 & 4 based on the age that symptoms begin & highest physical milestone achieved. Alparslan comes from a family of health workers including his father, yet this is not enough to help him with his condition. Thankfully, there is a a treatment for his disease, however, the only 2 places in the world that do the treatment are in the U.S. and Dubai. The treatment costs 1.8 million US dollars. About 68% of children with SMA type 1 die before their second birthday and 82% die before their fourth. SMA can cause a baby to trouble breathing or sitting without support.Alparslan's older brother also had type 1 SMA but unfortunately passed away just before his second birthday because the money was not found before the required deadline for the treatment. Every child has a right to grow up and live a life. We do not want to let money be the only reason Alparslan does not get to chance to do so. Give him the chance his brother never had.
