We, The current students of Spelman College are drafting this petition as a means to protest the recent economic injustice imposed upon us by our institution. During this period of economic hardship, Spelman has failed to accommodate for the change in financial circumstance that has affected almost all of its students.

On July 1st, 2020, Spelman College released their official plan for the upcoming academic year. The plan informed us that the majority of the student body would remain fully remote for the entire upcoming academic year. The most upsetting information in Spelman’s plan was financial. We were informed that remote students would only receive a 10 percent discount off of our tuition. This is absolutely unacceptable. This discount would leave many students and their families struggling . A 10 percent  discount would still place tuition above twenty thousand dollars. An overwhelming majority of Spelman students already rely heavily on financial assistance.  We are no longer paying for the full ”Spelman Experience”.

We, the newly bestowed fully remote students of Spelman, are demanding an increase of our tuition reduction from 10 percent to atleast 35 percent if possible. We will make our voices heard. Spelman has taught us that it is our “Choice to Change the World”. It is also our choice to change Spelman for the better
