This petition has been drafted for the purpose of discussing the current speed limit for vehicular traffic when driving through the community of Portapique (via Trunk 2). The current speed limit is 80 km/h. We, the community, feel strongly that this speed limit is too high and poses a risk of accident or injury to our residents and those visiting our community.

While the community of Portapique is small in population and has had very little in the way of commercial or recreational resources, things are now changing. With the installation of a brand new playground, the initiation of the market and an increase in community programs and events that will take place at the Community Hall, this area is sure to see a drastic increase in travel activity. It is strongly expected that this will be seen in both pedestrian traffic, and vehicular traffic. Furthermore, the increase in vehicular traffic will not simply be passing through, but will be entering and exiting off Trunk 2 onto the smaller residential roads, especially Portapique Loop. With the difficulty entering and exiting from Portapique Loop, if the current speed limit of 80 km/h is not reduced, the community feels that it is only a matter of time before an accident will occur. 

The community of Portapique is asking that the speed limit of Trunk 2 for the section passing through Portapique be reduced. If you support this initiative, please sign below:
