Why this petition matters

At the start of the pandemic, many traffic experts predicted that there would be less auto accidents and fewer fatalities with less people on the road.

The opposite resulted.

The U.S. has seen a large uptick in reckless driving since the pandemic, with more fatalities on the roads than we have ever seen. Psychologists report that many drivers appear angrier in general, and have increased anxiety since the pandemic began.

In 2020 with less traffic on the road, many drivers reported exceeding the speed limit by over 20 mph because they felt it was safe with less congestion. Some police agencies even eased up on their enforcement to avoid face to face contact.

Speed Kills.

1/4 of car wrecks are caused by someone driving over the posted speed limit.

High speeds make fatal car accidents more likely. The faster your vehicle is traveling, the longer it takes to stop, and your reaction time to a potential hazard in the road is shortened.

Speed Limits are posted for our safety, and should not be exceeded.

The average car takes over 300 feet to come to a stop if traveling 75mph.

70% of people between the ages of 18-24 report they feel comfortable driving over 20 mph of the posted speed limit. These are young, inexperienced drivers that we need to educate and protect.

Take the Pledge to Drive the Speed Limit ... and Arrive Alive!
