The area around Rattlesnake Campground in the Owen-Putnam State Forest is under threat of a logging operation.  Once known as Primitive Campgrounds do to its "WILD" nature, the area around the campground holds the treasures of a forest:  nature in its natural state with rocks, creeks, and many recreational opportunities for the rugged individuals looking for that "safari" experience.  Hunting, hiking, horseback riding, and fishing are all activities that happen in and around the campground.  The cultural features around the Campground include Abner Frazier's tombstone (1799-1864) as you can feel the history of the area when you walk down the trails.  Foraging the for forest foods in this area is abundant, from mushrooms, to berries to nuts and papaws.  This Forest's biodiverse nature and ecologyical value, along with the water quality, are invaluable to this area. The people of our community need an intact forest to help sustain their needs as state forests provide that opportunity.  Rattlesnake Campground Area is a Special Place worth saving.
