The current Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security in Nelson Mandela Bay did an oversight visit to Ward 2 after the Ward Councillor requested that he urgently do something to fight the surge in criminal activity in the ward.

He then made some outlandish remarks with regards to the residents of Ward 2. He stated the following:

"We just come from Orania (Ward 2) Apartheid is alive and kicking. Black municipal officials cannot park their vehicles in the yard. They must shower in cold water somewhere else while there is hot water on the premises. Can the mayor of Orania please tell us what is going on"

The statement made by the MMC is not only belittling and insulting to the residents of Ward 2 but also creates a false belief that Ward 2 is a "white" area. Which it is not. In actual fact, Ward 2 is one of the most diverse Wards in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The ward is also very accomodating and at every request of the councillor the residents have gone above and beyond in assisting one another, regardless of religion, race, or creed.

The people who sign this petition request that:

1. MMC Lawrence Troon apologizes unconditionally to the residents of Ward 2 for his insensitive statements.
2. That the Speaker of Council immediately launches an investigation into the conduct of MMC Lawrence Troon as he is a Mayoral Committee Member and Councillor of Nelson Mandela Bay.
