Southland Councils Need to Declare Climate Emergency
Southland Councils Need to Declare Climate Emergency

Climate Change is a huge problem worldwide and its effects are clear. With an increase in flooding, droughts and other extreme weather anomalies, climate change is making itself clear. This is why we are encouraging all Governments and Councils to declare a climate emergency.
During the 20th Century, the earth's average temperature has risen by 2 degrees Fahrenheit that may not seem like a lot but it's unusual in our planet's recent history. Earth's climate record shows that the global average temperature is stable over long periods. Furthermore, small changes in temperature correspond to enormous changes in the environment. For example, at the end of the last ice age, when the Northeast United States was covered by more than 3,000 feet of ice, average temperatures were only 5 to 9 degrees cooler than today.
Other effects of climate changes include loss of sea ice, accelerated sea-level rise and long intense heat waves. We've seen this around the world with flooding especially in the pacific islands and New Zealand also with heatwaves which we have experienced in Southland.
I am calling everyone and anyone who believes we need to take action. Help me get my local government to declare a climate emergency.
