Alexandra Anderson started this petition to Southington Town Council and

In September 2020, President Trump’s administration instructed the government to eliminate all employee training and public education student courses in “Critical Race Theory”.  Critical Race Theory is a deeply flawed pseudo-scientific approach applied to history, which stems from early 19th century progressive literature and implies that ‘virtually all White people contribute to racism’. Currently, during such trainings and courses, students and employees across Southington and the entire Connecticut are required to say that they ‘benefit from racism,’ and ‘learn’ the ways in which they benefit.

The presidential order instructed agencies to identify and eliminate any contracts or spending that train employees in “critical race theory,” “white privilege,” “or any other training or propaganda effort that teaches or suggests either that the United States is an inherently racist or evil country or that any race or ethnicity is inherently racist or evil.”

Additionally, the presidential order authorizes an immediate freeze of funding to any employer or publicly funded institution in the United States if they refuse to halt such trainings, mandatory courses and activities.

We call on Southington Town Council, the Town Manager, Superintendent of Public Schools and Southington Board of Education to:

  1. Town Council: To hold a public hearing outlining all of the ways, literature, and programs in which Critical Race Theory is currently implemented using public funding or publicly funded technology.
  2. Southington Board of Education, and Superintendent of Southington Public Schools, Timothy Connellan, and Assistant Superintendent Steven Madancy: To end Critical Race Theory mandatory curriculum across Southington Public Schools immediately, and replace the current curriculum with classic “world genocide and humanities” instruction, and to end all implicit bias trainings for all school district employees.
  3. Town Manager, Mark Sciota: To end all implicit bias trainings for town employees where such exist, including but not limited to fire personnel, police, EMT and other departmental workers and contractors.
