I grew up here, as did my mom and my grandfather. In that time most of the historic buildings have been torn down. Our downtown has become disgraceful. We need to keep at least one thing to remind us of the past.

It’s just unfathomable to me that the Southgate Council is not supporting this endeavour to save the Townhall. Also this quote seems extremely high and questionable. You have a community that has now doubled in size with a lot of the new residents coming from urban areas. This isn’t a little rural farming town anymore and your leaders need to start planning for the future. Your downtown is almost depleted to nothing forcing residents in your very own town to go shop elsewhere. You need something in your community now more than ever that is going to bring people together and that was something the old townhall did. You have these amazing productions happening in Shelburne yearly. And where do they get a lot of their talent? That’s right....Dundalk! Quit forcing your commmunity to go elsewhere to enjoy nice things, when you can have it all right here. Your CAO David Milliner states “the realty is a large percentage of of the Southgate is not interested, engaged in the project, and silently does not support the investment of tax payer dollars in the building”. I ask of David to show where he has proof of this claim. You’ll bend over backwards for companies like Lystak, that transport human waste through your town from Toronto and Grobark that makes your town smell like death but when it comes to investing in something that can bring real happiness and entertainment to your community...you’re closed for business. This council needs to exhaust all avenues to save this building and think outside the box to make it happen.....and not put it on the shoulders of these amazing volunteers that are trying to save it. It just truly shows the lack of leadership In Southgate and it shows there’s no vision or proper planning in place. Real leaders will rally and do everything possible to bring their community together. And I’m sure the mayor and every councillor campaigned on that promise. If you can’t provide that to your constituents, do the right thing and don’t run another term......that goes for your CAO too.

I am signing this petition as I am a former resident of Dundalk. I grew up in this small town and the Town Hall is a part of the history and character that charms the village.

The Dundalk Town Hall has been the heart and soul of this town for many generations. Every child has grown up with the memories of performances there. It is full of history and teaches the youngest generation a sense of pride and community.

We need to preserve the past to make a better future. One does not exist without the other. Remember, when we forget, ignore and attempt to rewrite the past, we are doomed to repeat it.
