Modify the Southern Local Dress Code
Modify the Southern Local Dress Code
To a lot of people, Southern Local is a home away from home. Many students arrive early in the morning for school, and don't leave the building until hours past school being dismissed so that they can participate in sports, clubs, etc. However, over the past few years there has been a problem on our hands as students. The dress code. For example, on picture day (of 2021) there were 3 students who were dress coded for being distracting toward fellow students. As students, we see that statement as if they are saying that it is our job as teens to make sure that we are not over-sexualized. When in reality we should be teaching that it doesn't matter what a person is wearing, they should be respected. It also sends a message that being taken out of class and forced to change, trumps our access to a normal day of education.
So we ask that the school district considers modifying our dress code, and educate our peers that no one should be discriminated against, based on what they are wearing.
