2018 Club Grants Application - Southern Highlands Hockey Inc. (SHHI)

We are writing to ask you to make representations on behalf of our club members to the Minister for Racing in support of our association’s ClubGRANTS application.

Southern Highlands Hockey is applying for $290,000 under the 2018 ClubsGRANTS Category 3 Sport & Recreation Infrastructure grants program in the current round which closed on 19 February.

The grant will provide energy efficient LED lighting to the new synthetic hockey field being constructed this year at the Welby Hockey Centre. The project has Council approval and work has commenced to prepare the site. The total cost to build and light this playing surface is $1.5 million.

We gratefully acknowledge your contribution in securing $374,622 from the NSW Government toward the construction of the new playing field.

Additional funds are now sought to complete the project. Southern Highlands Hockey is contributing $350,000 from community fund raising and Wingecarribee Shire Council has approved a loan of $600,000.

If successful, the Clubs GRANT funding will cover the budget shortfall and enable the entire project to be completed in time for the start of the hockey season in March next year. The opportunity exists to share in the opening of the new facility.

Minimum two synthetic fields with lights is a requirement to host State Championships or Masters Competition level events. This grant application is for the final unfunded element of the project to meet those minimum requirements.

Then, from 2019 the Southern Highlands will be able to host regional competition events. These can bring up to 1500 spectators whose stay in the region results in a combined financial benefit to the local economy valued at over $1 million.

Southern Highlands Hockey is one of the largest regional hockey associations with 800 members. It comprises 7 local clubs, 2 schools and around 500 families from across the district.
We, the Southern Highlands hockey community, urge you to contact Clubs NSW & your Paliamentary collegues to indicate your support of the application.

Yours sincerely,
