Join our petition to the Southern DHB to reinstate funding for the lactation consultant role in our region.
In September 2017 the funding for a Community Lactation Consultant for Central and South Otago from PHO Well south came to an end. This vital service was providing free expert breastfeeding help to mothers in the region, and without it new mums from our region who are struggling will have to travel to Dunedin for help.
The loss of the Community Lactation Consultant for the region could lead to a decrease in breastfed babies as well as potentially putting new mothers at risk of post natal depression.
"This is a crucial service that the women of the area could not do without, not only invaluable to the health and wellbeing of the next generation but also to the mothers emotional wellbeing. With the guidance & care we received our transition into parenthood was a lot smoother than it would have been otherwise. I can truly say that this service was completely priceless in creating a positive postpartum period as well as helping give my son the best start in life"
Gill, Wanaka Mum
