I am starting this petition and I'm hoping to gain your support in implementing a change at Sutton Road cemetery in Southend on sea.

My son lost his life on the 27th of December 2016, he was only 17 years old. He is buried at this cemetery and myself, family and friends spend a lot of time with him. My son's resting place is extremely precious to me, it is where I go to share what is happening in life, trying to keep his memory alive. He has younger siblings who also spend a lot of time with him and miss him dearly. As a family we decorate his resting place on his Birthday, Easter, Halloween and Christmas as well as maintaining his grave very well throughout the year. Not once have the maintenance team had to cut his grass, we do this regularly.

The cemetery requested the removal of all memorabilia and lighting etc and as this is so important to me, I contacted the cemetery office to ask for confirmation that all children's graves were exempt, to be advised that the babies section was the only exemption and this did not apply to any other children buried within the cemetery. I enquired why this was not the case for all children (up to 18) to be told "Everyone is someone's child".

This should not be limited to babies as every child that is no longer with us should be treated fairly and equally with the ability for all bereaved families and friends to remember and shares memories with their loved one's.

I feel as a mother who has lost her child, it is unfathomable I am having to fight to share memories with my son. Please sign and share this and together we can make a change, thank you!
