Gemma Kentish started this petition to Southend county council (Permit parking department)

As a one car household resident of Leigh on sea with a new baby, I am finding it increasingly frustrating to not be able to park outside my own house.

Due to my house being in close proximity to the Broadway I can rarely find a space near to my house and get the baby/buggy/bags out of the car in a reasonable manner.

If I move my car early on a Saturday to pop out it is impossible to find a space again until Saturday evenings and sometimes beyond.

Staff members of North street primary school also use my road to park despite their staff car park.

It is completely unfair that Leigh on sea residents pay higher council tax than other surrounding areas in Southend and then to have the issue of parking to be ignored.  The council need to make provisions for visitors and shoppers which does not disadvantage residents.

I do not think that it is a fair argument to dismiss permits and say that permit parking would discourage people from visiting.

Leigh is already a thriving area of independent shops with an excellent reputation and amazing array of facilities.

Introducing permits could surely generate revenue for the council if they were to invest in developing proper parking for visitors (such as the area next to Henry’s burgers) which could be reinvested into our local area.

This issue will only worsen with the re-development of the Grand (if it is to feature new restaurants and shops which will only encourage new visitors) - which of course is brilliant for our local economy- however this should not be at the expense of loyal and tax paying residents.

I urge you to support me me in calling the council to action and support residents of Leigh on Sea
