Perry Gamon started this petition to southend council and

Southend United are a League 1 football club that are struggling on the pitch & facing relegation to League 2 and have well documented financial problems too. The Covid 19 epidemic is exacerbating their woes.

With a football club using their home ground for no more than 35 days a year, their stadium is left  vacant for the remaining 330 days. What a great facility the local authority could benefit from if it was owned by their local council. Exhibitions, shows, concerts, other sporting events, etc. The new stadium could be owned 10% Southend United & 90% Southend Council to allow appropriate share of usage.

The Council could fund the development costs through their access to the Public Works Loan Board at just 2.82% which is far cheaper than private companies (such as SUFC) can borrow at. This would help the longer term viability of Southend United & would be a great asset for the town of Southend-on-Sea & all its residents.
