Greg Tietjen started this petition to Southampton Town Department of Transportation and

The residential neighborhood along Old Mill Rd and Upper 7 Ponds is being overrun with tradesman and visitor traffic moving at very high speeds through the area. While they are doing so they are neglecting to stop at stop signs, ignoring locals and screeching their wheels in attempts to stop at all hours. This traffic flow has now become a very dangerous thoroughfare for all people inhabiting the area. So much so the town police have to keep watch here every morning for speeding.

On top of the commercial traffic the town has caused additional traffic to enter and exit the neighborhood due to the parking spaces established for town business on Old Mill Rd. These spaces do not allow for  turn around and shoppers are forced to enter the 7 Ponds neighborhood at all hours to return to Rt27, further impacting the quality of life.

What I propose is that the town dead ends Old Mill road on the West side of the LIRR railroad tracks and create a cul-de-sac on the east side allowing shoppers to return back to Rt27 as intended. At the same time this dead end would eliminate all trade parade traffic currently invading our area with "speeding" in excess of 55mph, and blowing stop signs. Making this change ( or at a minimum restrict the hours of use as done in other neighborhoods). Would restore this neighborhood back to the tranquil place it once was. As of now my 8 year old son cannot safely ride his bike, play ball or walk his dog down his own street without the concerns of being in a fatal accident.
