Bring back course cost grants

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

My name is Francesca Alabaster and I am a second year film production student at Southampton Solent University. Over the years the university has provided students with grants to enable us to have resources and budgets to support us with our course's demands. This support has now been dramatically reduced to the point where only final major projects in third year can have access to these funds. This has already had a massive impact our creativity. As someone that doesn't want to be filming in my student house with no costumes or props, the current lack of support from our university is a worry to me. Also, the simpler things like petrol for travel to locations and digital storage for footage, shot on the cameras supplied by the university, which we are so grateful to have access to but unfortunately cant use to their full potential due to lack funds for storage.

We do have an idea for a solution. Any student who wishes to access these funds has to pitch their film to a panel, much like we would have to when we enter the industry. This pitch to include a budget breakdown, synopsis and crew for the films ect. This will help to prepare us for the real world while filtering out any needless investments.

Myself and my fellow course mates need your support by signing and sharing this petition to help us get the most out of our university experience and give us the best start for a very competitive industry. We Thankyou for your support.
