Speeding is a perennial problem in Brookvale Road. The top section of the Road is long and straight encouraging some drivers to flaunt the current 30mph speed limit and it is not uncommon to see cars travelling in excess of 45mph. There is also danger to children from drivers because of the scout hut that doubles as after school care in the road.  On school days, crocodiles of children walk the length of the upper section from Highfield School that is situated at one end of the road. Parents of children attending the school mainly park in the road at pick up and drop off times. There is also a nursery in the same stretch posing additional hazard to children and their carers. Highfield Church parishioners also mainly use the road for parking posing a risk to them, young and old alike from motorists. There is also an old peoples home. At a personal level as a resident in the road, I not only fear for my wife and my safety but also for that of my daughter her husband and their 3 small children who also reside in the road. 
It is only a matter of time before someone is killed or seriously injured in Brookvale Road caused by a speeding driver and hence this petition requests a change of speed limit to 20mph and appropriate traffic calming measures be established by Southampton City Council ASAP.
