South Windsor CT schools currently have an early dismissal on Wednesdays.  This is a great opportunity for Teachers PD, which we really think is necessary.  However finding child care mid-day in middle of the work week is extremely challenging.

South Windsor district has very limited before and after care options.  4th R program is over subscribed and cannot support child care for everyone.  Other options entail shuttling kids to alternative facilities at a higher cost and complexity.  Overall adding too much stress for working couples trying to manage care for little kids.

Coming out of COVID-19, lot of businesses have adapted a hybrid working model. In many cases, employees have an option to work some days from home. In particular majority of employers are supporting work from home on Fridays.  If the early dismissal day can be moved to Friday afternoon instead of Wednesdays, it will help many families better manage child care on such days. Everyone including teachers and school staff will also be able to finish their week comfortably at the end of the week. Teachers may also get an option for a PD from home on Friday afternoons.  

I think it's a win win solution for many families and Teachers and must be considered seriously.  It will help families to better manage child care as well as have a better work life balance for everyone with a comfortable end of the week routine.
