Katie Rivito started this petition to South Valley Neighborhood and

If you are a member of the South Valley neighborhood in Syracuse, NY, then you are probably painfully aware of the amount of people who willfully run through the stop sign on the corner of Monticello Dr. South and Phelps Place. This stop sign is the only one on that corner to enforce efficient and safe travel - leaving pedestrians, bicyclists, children, and other individuals vulnerable to the decision making abilities of the drivers who should be stopping at this sign, but choose not to. There have been countless incidents where children have been nearly killed, dogs have been inches away from being hit, and other drivers have been moments away from getting t-boned.

Stop signs were created to regulate traffic, keep neighborhoods safe, and prevent car accidents. When people choose not to obey them, this completely defeats the purpose of installing stop signs.

This petition calls for the following:

-increased police presence in the South Valley neighborhood to enforce traffic regulations by ticketing motorists in violation of those regulations.

-consideration of changing the current singular stop sign on that corner to a three-way stop, forcing those who typically run the stop sign to actually stop going forward.

Please consider the lives this petition could potentially save, the money that could avoid being spent on auto repairs, and the overall increase in safety and comfort in our neighborhood.

I know that if I hit and murdered someone/a pet because I couldn’t bother to stop 5 seconds at a stop sign, I would never be able to drive again. Could you?
