Every house, village, town and city should have safe walkways to encourage more walking and less reliance on motorised vehicles.
We also need a safer environment for cyclists!

I'm very concerned about increased traffic, congestion and access caused by inconsiderate parking

A path is essential for the safety of the new residents. The road and pavement were already inadequate and host to numerous accidents and cannot support further walking and car traffic.

I support the new housing development and recognise the need for new houses in Bruton. However, I am very disappointed to see that the plans for a safe link between the development and Bruton town have been removed from the plans. There is no doubt that the development will create additional journeys to and from the town. The reality is that most households have at least two cars and without a safe pedestrian/cycle link into town, most people will drive instead which will only exacerbate the congestion and parking issues in Bruton. This will in turn make the roads even more dangerous for the people who do currently walk/cycle. Please can I urge you to include a safe link for walkers and cyclists as an essential part of this development.

It makes sense. And the developers saving/making more money in the short term is not a valid reason for omitting to build a path which will be there for the long term.

People need to have an option other than a car to get into town, which hasn't got the capacity for more cars!!

I totally agree with the potential and disastrous problems that Bruton would have if there was not proposed path which was originally shown in the consultation material. Bruton already has had some awful traffic accidents recently due to the lack of parking, narrow roads and pavements. With a new housing development there will be more cars and as Bruton High street is extremely narrow and almost impossible to park residents will drive to other towns to shop and therefore it will without a doubt affect local businesses. It seems that without this shared-use path being built there is no doubt that there will be many potential future problems in Bruton. It's a beautiful town. Let's keep it that way.
