South Lanarkshire Cycling Partnership was created to encourage greater participation in cycling across South Lanarkshire - not only so residents can enjoy the South Lanarkshire countryside, but also to encourage people to cycle to work, reducing congestion on the roads, lowering CO2 emissions and as a healthy hobby to reduce health risk factors such as obesity that can lead to health problems including cancer and stroke.

It was set up with cross-party support and was a great way of involving the cycling community locally and nationally in shaping infrastructure and facilities for cyclists.

One of our its big wins was getting investment to complete the national cycle route 74 between Glasgow and Carlisle. Humza Yousaf opened the link.

Now the hard work of the Cycling Partnership faces ruin as South Lanarkshire Council wants to scrap it at its first full meeting on Thursday.

Help us to tell them it’s not on.
