Why this petition matters

Started by Helen Duffy

For the second year in a row, we belive that South Lanarkshire Council are considering getting rid of the full time janitor in Coalburn Primary School. They state that to require a  "full time" janitor a school must have over 100 children. Counting the nursery children in Coalburn, who are school building  from 9 am until 3pm, there are indeed well over 100 children who all need janitorial services to maintain their safety. Some nurseries may be in different or adjoining buildings to school,  but in Coalburn they are in the same building.

We the undersigned ask that council bosses do NOT disregard our nursery children and  take account of their safety needs when making their decision regarding our janitor and keep a full time janitor in Coalburn primary.

Lockdown has caused many of our children to suffer from mental health issues and we feel that taking away their well known, well loved janitor will increase this suffering to them. At a time when they need all the support they can get from adults, especially ones they know and trust, we ask you to please consider their needs when making your decision. Our current janitor, Mr Stevenson,  is well known to all the children in the village, he goes above and beyond for "his" children and is loved by all of them.

Thank you considering our requests....
