Dear Councillor X,

We, the residents of Belfry, seek your support for the installation of public street lighting along the N81 and N82 - specifically between bus stop 2590 on the N81 Blessington Road and the junction of the N82; and the trimming of tree branches to allow light to reach the street along Magna Drive.

As a matter of public and road safety, lights should be installed as soon as possible.

We have previously written to the Council Executive on this matter, but no action was taken.

This is also a matter of security, as houses and apartments on Belfry Road and Downs have been burgled and we have good reason to believe that burglars have been watching from the N81 under cover of darkness, waiting to strike, as there's a gap in the railings behind shrubbery from N81 onto Belfry Road.

It is unsafe to walk along those stretches of road in the evening/early morning, especially for individuals walking alone. Women in the neighbourhood have expressed particular concern about the safety of this stretch due the absence of adequate street lighting.

We understand that all public realm budget may be allocated for this current financial year, but we urge you to support the installation of street lighting as a priority in the annual improvement works programme next due before the Council in January 2021, and expect you to commit to us to vote in favour of it at the area committee budget meeting.

We look forward to hearing from you with your commitment to support our request.

Kindest regards,
