Senate Bill 18 appears benign. Proponents of Senate Bill 18 state, “it only clears up the current law,” “it provides access to mental health,” “we’ve incorporated people’s concerns.” Unfortunately, that is not accurate, and the implications of the proposed changes are at a dire cost to the counseling profession and those we serve, some of the most vulnerable people in our state. I am asking you to vote AGAINST SB18 and ask the writers to return to stakeholders to produce a bill that is agreed upon and that helps protect consumers and those providing services. This is what the writers were asked to do last legislative session after hoghousing HB1028, and DID NOT. They DO NOT have stakeholder input and stakeholders disagree with several items in the bill.
