Our education system puts far too much effort into incorrectly glorifying the progressiveness of America. We as a country are running on systems have deeply discriminatory roots, and little has been done to shed light onto the injustices that people of color continue to face daily. Properly educating students about the systemic racism that is normalized and overlooked in society is far more important than pretending we have grown from the era of slavery as our one and only instance of racism and oppression. It is vital for us to be brutally honest about the discrimination that people of color face in healthcare, the workplace, and even in educational institutions. The only way to bring about a generation that will treat all people as equals is by working to emphasize the evil of racial injustices while instilling proper standards for the treatment of all other humans. Because grade school is the primary source of education for children in the country, it is important that we begin to differentiate humanitarianism from politics, and further, properly educate students about such issues to bring about a real call for change.
