Dennis Hoechst started this petition to South Carolina State Senate and

South Carolina's  patients must share their nurse with too many other patients. This understaffing of CNA's, LPN/LVN's, and Registered Nurses is dangerous. A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the higher the patient-to-nurse ratio are in hospitals, skilled care facilities, and long term care facilities, the more likely there will be adverse outcomes or even patient deaths. Mistakes, errors and complications rise with increase demands of improper balance In patient-to-nurse ratios.

Safe staffing ratios will mean less turnover among nurses, which will save money on training costs and the hiring of temporary nurses. Additional advantages include patients will receive better and proper care, they will experience better outcomes, less complication, and have a better chance at enhanced recovery times. Thus this will reduce length of hospital stay and considerably save on healthcare expenses.
