Aiken County Vietnam Memorial relocated to better location

The Aiken County Veterans Council is asking the South Carolina State House to approve the relocation of the Aiken County Vietnam Memorial to a place of honor and accessibility. This will ensure that all of the veterans it represents and any and all persons who wish to visit the monument can do so in a safe manner.
The memorial currently rests in the median between a four lane highway without proper sidewalks or crosswalks to access the monument.
The Aiken County Veterans Council would like to relocate the monument to the County Veterans park a few miles away which offers a safe, suitable and secure location for the monument for years to come.
Each year on Memorial Day we as a nation gather to honor Americas war dead, those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom as individuals and the way of life we as Americans live by. Each Veterans Day we gather again as a nation to honor the service and sacrifice of those who wore and are currently wearing the uniform of this great nation.
We do this twice a year, once in May and again in November. We often gather with friends and family and get lost in the moment having barbecues, playing games and enjoying the camaraderie of friends and family. Twice a year as a nation we say thank you.
Monuments like this Vietnam Memorial stand erect in cities, counties, and states all over this great nation as a daily reminder, a daily thank you to all those that either did or were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for all of the freedoms we as Americans have been blessed with and so cherish.
The Aiken Vietnam Memorial has 36 names inscribed on it. These 36 service members lost their lives in Vietnam. We not only owe them the respect of being good stewards of their monument but we owe their families, as well as all the service members of the Vietnam War and their families. This monument belongs to every service member and the families of every service member who served during the Vietnam War.
Please join with us in making sure that our Vietnam Veterans are honored in the proper manner.
