While not wanting to deprive our public servants of a state holiday but also no longer glorifying our racist history, can we replace Confederate Memorial Day (May 10) as a designated state holiday?

The below dates honor historic events that relect how South Carolina's courage and strength imbued those same characteristics into her elected government. Suggested alternatives:

  • May 23 - "Articles of Confederation Day" - SC signed the US Constitution in 1788
  • June 25 - "Reunification Day" - SC was readmitted into the United States of America in 1886
  • December 14 - "South Carolina Independence Day" - the British vacated Charles Town in 1782
