Why this petition matters

Started by Autumn Webb

A South Carolina patriot started this petition to submit to the South Carolina General Assembly.

South Carolina is one of few States with no provisions allowing its voters to recall elected officials whom they feel have failed them.

By having no recall provisions in our States Constitution voters are forced to deal with an elected official, regardless of their performance in office, until the official is up for re-election. This has opened the door to countless State Representatives, States Senators and other elected officials making promises during campaigns that they have no intention of keeping, and casting votes that fly in the faces of those who elected them. By having no recall provisions, these corrupt politicians do as they please, counting on the fact that most voters will have forgotten their transgressions before their re-election.

With an amendment to the State Constitution allowing voters to recall their representatives, South Carolinas elected officials would be held to a far greater standard of integrity. Rather than forcing the People of South Carolina to deal with a politician who has lied to them, betrayed them, cheated them or defied them, a recall amendment would allow the People of South Carolina to refuse to allow these corrupt politicians to hold their office and enable them to elect someone they trust.

We, the undersigned, call on the South Carolina General Assembly to take up an amendment to the State Constitution that would allow the voters of our great State to recall their elected officials when they see fit to do so.
