Attach bully prevention resource links to the K-12 school website.
We're fed up with the bullying problem in our public school system! As parents it's hard enough to keep our children safe at home, but a whole new set of challenges may arise when our children attend school. We are concerned with the general well-being of our children during school hours, such as whether the school provides appropriate levels of safety measures or whether there is a solid school discipline policy in place. We send our children to school to give them the opportunity to learn in a safe, peaceful and secure environment however with the increase of bullying in our schools, this has become virtually impossible. We the parents, students and concerned citizens of the state of South Carolina request an online bully prevention resource system, an anonymous bullying reporting system and readily available handouts for both parents and students. Currently on individual school websites there are links which include a special protocol for reporting child abuse and neglect, suspected child abuse-neglect form and a child abuse power point however there is no direct bully prevention resource link. We would like bully prevention resource links to be attached to the main SC K-12 website. We also request student handbooks be updated to include parent-student bully prevention resources as well as a reference for parents and student to report bullying and other on campus issues.
- South Carolina Education System
Recently in our community a child committed suicide. One of the main reasons she took her life was bullying! This child felt isolated and didn't have an outlet to alert the school administration that she was being mentally tortured which ultimately lead to her taking her own life. We, the concerned parents, citizens and students of South Carolina ask if you would attach bully prevention resource links to the K-12 school website. This is a small first step, but it may save a life.
