Restoration of Gaffney Memorial Park

A cemetery should be a place where families can visit, a space that is beautified on behalf of the dead, a place where you find a calm and a peace in remembering their spirit and life. Gaffney Memorial Park however, is a complete eye-sore! I drive by this cemetery almost every single day and each time, I cringe!! My great-grandparents, my grandmother, and my uncle are buried here. Often times I refuse to go visit because I don't want to leave sad and upset...not by the fact that they are no longer here, but because of the negligence to the area in which they are remembered. There are trees, bushes, dead grass, and a ditch often filled with trash that blocks the view of the cemetery. SCDOT is responsible for this area; however, they stated that they do not cut further due to finances and the risk of debris, which would mean having to do manual labor. If you have family buried here, please help me in this effort!! Even if you don't have family here, imagine the embarrassment felt when going to honor your loved ones and being distracted from your visit due to the slovenly manner in which the area is kept. Our families deserve better and I am determined to make it happen.
