Compassionate Schools for Better Education
Why this petition matters

Hello and thank you for reading!
Why should Compassionate Schools be implemented in our community?
According to the CDC, childhood adversity such as trauma (even that experienced in-utero) including emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and neglect are prevalent, even in children.
Research shows that 64% of adults have at least one Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) and that they are often passed down through generations.
ACEs negatively impact learning due to an over-developed fight or flight response. Though the impacts can be severe for learning and emotional regulation, there is hope.
Harvard has researched the factors of increasing healthy, connected relationships even in early childhood as can be found through Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). Impacts of dysfunction can be greatly mitigated through simply rebuilding trust using these best practices.
Educators trained in TBRI techniques can combat the negative impacts of trauma and restore trust as a means to truly increase academic and social emotional learning in our schools.
Compassionate Schools Saw:
- Less suspensions due to fights
- 55% higher grades on standardized tests
- 94% graduate rate
- Higher teacher retention
- Reduction in truancy and dropout
