I am signing because we should choose to honour and glorify the individuals and events that inspire us. Making our public spaces reflective of our desired values as a society is the right thing to do. Furthermore, by moving such statues to a museum we can do a better job of learning from our history rather than simply dismissing or ignoring it.

I'm signing because I am ashamed of Ayr's historical links with slavery and the involvement of Scots in the atrocities committed in the name of empire. I welcome a debate on acknowledging Ayrshire's part in the history of oppression systematically carried out worldwide.
