Petition to restock the South Amboy Waterworks

Every spring/summer myself and a group of friends love to frequent local lakes to freshwater fish. All seasoned fisher”people” already know that one of the best local spots is Kennedy Park in Sayreville. The other day our group decided we wanted to try a different spot just to shake things up a little. We all agreed to take a trip to the lake behind the YMCA; better known as the South Amboy Waterworks to see how the fishing was down there. We did well and had fun. We caught the usual; bluegill, sunfish (Sunny) and even a couple small pickerel. Collectively we came up with this idea that if South Amboy consistently stocked the lake with other fish and trimmed the surrounding weeds a bit, it would be a welcome spot for people to visit. After a little research, I was able to find out that South Amboy only owns half the lake and Sayreville owns the other half. However it was the city of South Amboy who communicated with the Fish & Game warden about restocking the lake several years back. Wouldn’t restocking the lake be a great idea for our town? It would offer an enjoyable place for people of all ages to fish, hang out, and give the local residents of South Amboy another recreational event around town?! We sure think so. If you feel the same about the potential improvement, please help us by signing the petition below. We will bring the long list of names to the next City Council meeting in hopes that we can help bring freshwater fishing back to South Amboy!
