Riley Phoenix started this petition to South African government, South African minister of Human rights

While Queer acceptance (The LGBTQ+ community) has been considered a norm by leading world countries such as the United states of America and the United Kingdom, it's a relatively new idea on the African continent, most specifically South Africa.

South Africa has done an adequate job in preventing - or atleast addressing - other forms of discrimination such as Racism and Sexism. In 2018 a woman was persecuted due to a racial slurs towards a black policeman, showing the country's lack of tolerance towards racism. In November 2020 South Africa was facing an extreme spike in the number of Gender Based Violence cases , President Cyril Ramaphosa said on the issue: "There is much on which we agree. We agree that the rights of women and children are inalienable, and must be both upheld and enforced. We agree that the drivers of gender-based violence are diverse and need a multi-faceted response that includes all sectors of society". Sending a clear message about Sexism in South Africa, but what about Queerphobia(Discrimantion of the LGBTQ+ Community) ?. While it does say in the country's constitution that no individual may be treated unequally based on Sexual Orientation, this does not outweigh the behaviour and belief of common society.

Firstly, there has been no emphasis being put forward by the South African government to ensure Queerphobia is not acceptable despite Queerphobia being as big as an issue - if not bigger - than Racism and Sexism

Secondly, I have seen countless acts of Queerphobia being displayed within society with no act of authority being held against them. While we are taught not to treat people differently based on Race and Gender assignment, Queerphobia is sadly being left to be considered a 'norm' in common society, this is unacceptable. Countless individuals are Closeted members of the LGBTQ+ community, living with a fear of 'coming out' when they shouldn't have to hide their true selves in the first place. Living with a constant fear of being judged or treated without respect leads to mental health issues , insecurity, inability to focus and possibly even the contemplation of suicide ,all these issues could be abolished if young people were simply educated on the importance of accepting the individuality of themselves and others , after all , the father of our nation ,Nelson Mandela ,once said: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".

Lastly, I would like to to speak about what can be done to prevent Queerphobia, The law that should be implemented , why it is important and why there is no acceptable reason to commit Queerphobia, or any form of discrimination. While many queerphobic individuals would have you believe that being a member of the lgbtq+ community is "unnatural", this is nothing more than politically incorrect propaganda , as a matter of fact ,it's quite the opposite ,self discovery is infact a natural event. Homosexuals dont choose to be sexually attracted to the same gender, their hormones make them Sexually attracted to the same gender, hormones are scientifically what makes us Feel the need to mate or reproduce, since we are born with hormones they are considered a natural part of life, Sexuality isn't a Choice, its an emotion, and most importantly its a part of you that you can't choose not can you change.preventing Queerphobia is quite easy, we need to send people who commit acts of Queerphobia To workshops to educate them on the unjustifiable nature of any and all forms of discrimination, and educate the youth on the matter as well. Another important aspect is giving young people the choice to explore Sexual orientation/romantic orientation and giving people 18 and over the choice to decide thier own gender Assignment. Since all people are born as a Cisgender Male or Cisgender Female they need to know by the time they reach 16 and have acquired maturity that they have the freedom to identify as a transgender, Non-binary individual, agender etc. And since everyone is born with the assumption they are a Heteroromantic Heterosexual , Young people need to be educated on different Sexual Orientations and Romantic Orientations along with the freedom to explore them and discover who they are, as oppose to being Sexually and Romantically attracted to the opposite gender because of a common ideology dictated by society. It is for all these reasons I believe it should not be a difficult decision to make Queerphobia punishable by Prosecution along with/just as Racism, Sexism and etc. This is only right as it defines the true meaning of Equality. After all, if there is any country that knows anything about Reasonless Discrimantion and wants to avoid it happening again, it is of course South Africa. So wether it's because of Belief, personal Political views or opinions, People must know one thing:

No one has the right to Discriminated based on Gender Assignment, Sexual orientation, romantic orientation, Religion, Race, Ethnicity, Nationality, Age or any aspect of their social, economic and political life.

Wether you're Aromantic, Bisexual, Homosexual, Pansexual, Polyamorous, 2-Spirit or a Straight ally, or anything inbetween, Be true true to yourself, and dont change the person you see in the mirror because someone else didn't approve of him/her/them.

#GenocideOnQueerphobia

Yours sincerely, Riley Phoenix.
