Stefan van der Westhuizen started this petition to South African Government and

Adolph Malan came from modest beginnings on a farm in Wellington, yet emerged as one of the great pilots of the RAF in the Battle of Britain - "The King's favourite Afrikaner" they called him - and even today, he remains nothing short of a legend in the British Royal Air Force.

But Sailor returned to South Africa after the war, where, having flown alongside men of all races during the war, he found South Africa's race politics to be contrary to the human rights he had risked his life fighting for.

So, he made a stand against the Apartheid State: founding and leading the "Torch Commando," which at its peak had 250,000 members, before the Apartheid government had it systematically dismantled.

And through this process, Sailor Malan had his reputation severely tarnished; and then removed and forgotten from the national conversation.

The Apartheid NP Government made sure to omit him from our collective history books, and it is time for him to be acknowledged for what he and the Torchlight Commando did back int he mid 1900's

This must be part of the National discourse
