Shanelle Tracey Leonard Doonan started this petition to South African Government

The country is already suffering immensely with homelessness, houses are now not being built, this is causing even more people to be homeless, construction workers are suffering in these times.

Construction of residential building should be essential, not just construction of commercial, people are not even allowed to go to their offices so why would commercial construction be allowed and not residential, home loans help our banks succeed, more houses being built leads to more home loans, there are so many logical reasons why this should be permitted, yet it gets shut down.

We should also be able to get something from this lockdown and that should be that our homes are built, our dreams come true, some people do not feel safe where they are, someone who has saved up and taken out loans for their dream home gets shut down because of residential building not being an essential service, just imagine the stress and anxiety of the thought of not having a home to stay in, the only things that are not permitted are those that benefit the government. People are unsure of when their homes will be built and how long it will take, when do they have to start counting down to the day they won't have anywhere to stay.

We have so many squatter camps in South Africa, with people in it that have saved for homes and also taken out loans, this home will now not be built, which means they are stuck and that squatter camp in a 2x2 meter shack, this does not stop the spread of covid-19 as there are people in close proximity, and what about government housing, they could have been accepted into one of the developments houses and now won't be able to move but are still stuck between plenty of people.

We all want to be comfortable when in isolation, this is difficult for those who do not have proper homes and are relying on a house that was planned to be built.
